- Description; This saxophone series dates from the late 1920s (almost 100 years old now) and is named after Leon ‘Chu’ Berry, a tenor saxophonist who played with Fletcher Henderson and Benny Carter. He was known for his powerful sound, just like the Chu Berry models. Leon himself never played these saxophones. The name Chu Berry was given to the Conn New Wonder II models that were produced from about 1925 to 1930. The models can be recognized by the so-called Conn Mercedes star-shaped key protector on the C key and the serrated nail file key for the G#.
